Katakana chart
The complete katakana chart with romaji: all 104 katakana in the same order as the hiragana chart. Rows share a consonant, columns share a vowel. Print it, or keep it open while you read menus and signs. New to the script? Start with the learning guide.
How to read the chart
Same rules as hiragana: シ is shi, チ is chi, ツ is tsu and フ is fu. Two things are specific to katakana: a long vowel is written with the bar ー (コーヒー, kōhī), and sounds that Japanese lacks are built with a small vowel, such as ティ (ti), ファ (fa) or ウィ (wi).
The header and buttons are left out of the printed page.
Gojūon
The 46 basic sounds, ordered by vowel column (a, i, u, e, o).
Dakuten & handakuten
Two small strokes (゛) voice a consonant; a small circle (゜) turns h into p.
Yōon
An i-column kana followed by a small ya, yu or yo blends into one syllable.
