Privacy policy

The Kanapup app has no account, no advertising and asks for nothing about you. It sends us anonymous usage statistics (which screens and exercises are used, never who you are), which you can switch off in its settings; everything else you do in it stays on your device. This website is a separate matter: it measures visits with Google Analytics, but only if you accept. This page explains all of it.

Data the app stores on your device

To follow your learning, Kanapup keeps a few files in its private storage on your phone:

This data never leaves your device. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to read it. Uninstalling the app deletes it; on Android, clearing the app's storage in the system settings does too.

Anonymous usage statistics

To learn whether Kanapup helps and which parts of it are used, the app sends us anonymous usage events throughPostHog, a product analytics service. This is on by default and can be switched off at any time in the app's settings, under "Privacy". Switching it off stops every event immediately; your choice is stored on your device.

What is sent:

What is not sent: your learning progress itself (it stays on your device, only the events above leave it), nothing you type, no contact details, no location more precise than the country, no advertising identifier and nothing from other apps. We only look at these figures in aggregate, to decide what to improve; we do not sell them and do not use them for advertising.

PostHog Inc. processes these events on our behalf on its servers in the United States, under a data processing agreement; it takes part in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Like any server, PostHog's receives your IP address with each request and uses it to derive the country; we do not use the address itself. PostHog's own policy is atposthog.com/privacy.

What the app does not do

System features the app relies on

App stores

Kanapup is distributed through Google Play and the App Store, under Google's and Apple's own privacy policies. Through their developer consoles we only see aggregated, anonymous figures such as install counts, or crash statistics when you have chosen to share diagnostics with your phone's manufacturer. They cannot identify you.

Children

Kanapup is suitable for all ages. The usage statistics are anonymous and contain no personal data, so they identify no child either; a parent can switch them off in the settings.

This website

kanapup.com is a static site hosted by Cloudflare, whose servers may process technical connection data (such as your IP address) in their logs to deliver and protect the site, as described inCloudflare's privacy policy. We do not use these logs.

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help learners. It is off by default: until you accept it in the banner shown on your first visit, no Google script is loaded and no cookie is set. If you accept, Google Analytics writes a cookie in your browser and sends Google the pages you open, your IP address and technical details about your browser and device, as described inGoogle's privacy policy. We only ever look at aggregated figures, never at anything that identifies you. Your answer is kept in your browser's local storage; clearing your browsing data brings the banner back.

We also use Google Search Console, which reports the search terms that lead to the site. Google aggregates them before we see them, so no individual visitor appears there.

Changes

If the app ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated first and the date at the top will change.
